Creative Comfort: Kamakura's Unique Airbnb Experience

KamakuraAirbnb

During my recent visit to Kamakura, I had the pleasure of staying at a remarkable Airbnb hosted by Mari, an artist and gallery owner from Shibuya, Tokyo, and her photographer husband. Mari, who relocated to Kamakura in 2019, meticulously sought out this mountainside retreat, dedicating another year and a half to collaborating with a designer to bring her vision to life. As she put it, "Every moment of effort was worth it, even if it were my last."

Every corner of Mari's home is adorned with art from across the globe, each piece holding its own captivating story. From a thangka acquired during her travels in Nepal to post-modern masterpieces crafted by her son at the age of eight, the house is a treasure trove of creativity and inspiration.

Despite the brisk autumn air, the living room offered cozy warmth, scented with the soothing aroma of cedar incense. Mari made sure the bathroom was stocked with warm water, inviting me to indulge in a leisurely soak. With a glass of sake in hand, I savored the magical night air of Kamakura, surrounded by the tranquil beauty of Mari's sanctuary.
