Tokyo 4-Day Itinerary for First-Time Visitors: Food, Shopping, Sights

TokyoItinerarySolo Travel

Tokyo left a deep impression on me. It is an orderly city where people are polite, clean, and fashion-conscious. Regardless of age, everyone carefully coordinates their outfits. I was often amazed by the skillful mix-and-match styles of the elderly.

On this trip, I aimed for a relaxing vibe, focusing mainly on eating, drinking, shopping, and sightseeing.

Day 1: From Mt. Fuji to Tokyo

We arrived in Tokyo from Mt. Fuji in the afternoon and checked into our hotel in Roppongi. After a short rest, we went out for dinner, choosing AFURI to try their yuzu ramen. The subtle yuzu taste was incredibly refreshing - I especially recommend the spicy version. After dinner, we strolled to the Tokyo Tower to admire the city's nighttime scenery.

Day 2: Tokyo City Walk

This day was quite packed. We started with breakfast near the hotel, then headed to Shinjuku for shopping. We tried the cheese beef rice bowl at ステーキライス (Shibuya Miyamasu-zaka), which was truly memorable. After lunch, we explored Nakameguro, Daikanyama, and Ebisu, areas full of stylish brand stores and cafes. The famous Tsutaya Bookstore is also worth a visit. Nearby, we had delicious donuts from I'm Donut. Lastly, we returned to Shibuya Sky, but could only see the indoors due to the weather. This just leaves something to look forward to next time! For dinner, we had the tasty tea-soaked rice at こめらく.

Day 3: More Tokyo City Walk

Today was equally eventful. We visited Harajuku, Omotesando, Yoyogi Park, Sensoji Temple, and Ginza in succession. The fashionable Omotesando was a great shopping experience. Tranquil Yoyogi Park was perfect for relaxation. After receiving a lucky fortune at Sensoji, we were in high spirits all day. Lunch was sukiyaki at Kon no Bekkan - delicious beef and attentive service, albeit pricey. For dinner, we had the tempura donburi at Tenki, which was a bit oily but overall decent.

Day 4: Tokyo to Airport

Our last day focused on Ikebukuro. We started with dining and shopping at Sunshine City, home to many anime specialty stores like Crayon Shin-Chan, One Piece, etc. Nearby, we bought souvenirs and medicine at Matsumoto Kiyoshi and Don Quijote. Lunch featured oden at Takeshi Ikebukuro Nishiguchi. Finally, we headed to the airport, concluding our wonderful Tokyo trip.

Tips

If you have remaining balance on your Suica card, you can use it at the airport since it's accepted almost everywhere there.

I hope you all can create joyful, wonderful memories on your future trips to Japan!
