Main Dish Recommendations

1. Shabutei Shinsaibashi (しゃぶ亭 心斎橋店)

This long-standing sukiyaki restaurant, open for over 30 years, is a celebrity favorite. They cook the meat almost exclusively in plain water, allowing the flavors of the premium beef to truly shine. You can clearly see the meat's texture. We ordered two huge set meals and still felt there was an endless parade of deliciousness. I recommend going for lunch as prices are lower than dinner.

2. Chibo Okonomiyaki Restaurant (千房 道頓堀ビル店)

This was the fourth okonomiyaki (Osaka savory pancake) place I tried in Osaka. When in Japan, you must experience grilling your own okonomiyaki on the teppan with a little spatula – an experience you can't find elsewhere. While Chibo and Yukari are longtime classics, I found the okonomiyaki at Kiku and Tanuki-tei to be even more delicious.

3. Tsurutontan Kitashinchi (麺匠の心つくし つるとんたん 北新地店)

This incredibly popular udon spot had a line even when I arrived at 12:30am! I've tried many types of udon, but never this udon kaiseki cuisine. The steaming hot bowl of noodles, larger than my face, was truly comforting with each bite. The noodles had a satisfying chew, and the broth was rich. I highly recommend trying the curry tempura flavor – it was divine!

4. Gyukatsu Motomura (牛かつもと村 難波店)

This uniquely Osaka restaurant is hard to find elsewhere, and I've recommended it to many friends. The beef cutlets are fried on the outside, then you grill them further in a small pot at your table, achieving the perfect crispy-yet-tender texture. I've had gyukatsu in Tokyo and Kyoto, but the meat quality here in Osaka was the most tender and fresh.

5. Ramen Zundo-Ya Shinsaibashi (ラー麺ずんどう屋 心斎橋)

Located in the Shinsaibashi area, this 24/7 ramen shop always has a queue. While the menu is limited, their signature ramen absolutely doesn't disappoint with its rich, concentrated broth.

6. Makino Umeda (天ぷらまきの梅田店)

This was my friend's and my agreed best meal of the trip! The tempura, fried to order, arrives at your table piping hot and incredibly juicy and flavorful with each bite. If you're in Umeda, this restaurant is a must-try.

7. OKINI Yakiniku (OKINI焼肉 難波店)

An all-you-can-eat yakiniku (grilled meat) spot featuring premium wagyu beef – a surefire choice if you have a big appetite! While the ambiance is average, the service and meat quality are top-notch.

Coffee & Dessert Recommendations

1. Harbs (ハーブス 心斎橋パルコ店)

This shop specializes in mille crêpes (thousand-layer cakes). On my first day, they had sold out, so I returned the next day and queued for 30 minutes to successfully snag some. I tried the strawberry and sakura (cherry blossom) seasonal flavors – the cream was smooth yet not overly rich or sweet.

2. Marufuku Coffee Sennichimae honten

I adored the nostalgic ambiance of this old-school Japanese coffee house, perfect for photography. Beyond the rich coffee, their sandwiches and melon pan (sweet buns) also received rave reviews.

3. Link Hand Roasted Coffee

For those seeking an alternative to trendy cafes, this spot is an ideal choice. They use premium beans, truly allowing you to appreciate hand-dripped coffee. Most customers appeared to be locals.

Enjoy exploring Osaka's culinary landscape! Each of these spots offers a unique taste experience that you won't forget.
